The drawing will be conducted by two members of the Al Oerter Foundation. Plans are to select participating classes from Essex, Franklin and Clinton Counties.
Led by AOF Executive Director Roald Bradstock, the AOF/AOTO program will focus on the region’s rich winter sports history over the past century. Bradstock, known internationally as the “Olympic Picasso,” will be joined by several Olympian artists who will participate in program educational and artistic instruction.
What is Olympism Art?
Olympism Art, coined by AOF Bradstock, is a new concept and technique. Olympism’s artistic influences and inspirations include the French impressionism and fauvism movements introduced by such famous artists as George Seurat and Jackson Pollock.
“There are two key visual elements of the Olympism art genre parallel the work and training ethics of Olympians. The first, is the use of repetition of objects, lines and shapes within the artwork and artwork series,” says Bradstock. “This method creates a visual expression and symbolic reference to the time, effort and repetitious nature required by Olympic and Paralympic athletes to succeed in their competitive athletic careers,” he adds. “The second visual element of Olympism is the sports and Olympic & Paralympic-themed subject matter of the artwork, which includes: Olympic & Paralympic athletes, historical sporting moment and figures, sports, equipment and sporting venues, logos and national flags.”
